2020 RUN WITH THE POLICE – CANCELLED
Dear Valued Supporters,
As I write to you today, I do so in reflection of great efforts that have been put into place planning yet another successful Run with the Police event. Our run committee has dedicated countless hours and attended many meetings all for the purpose of bringing an exceptional community and first-responder appreciation event to our great city. Though it absolutely pains me to make this announcement, I want to assure you it was not done light-heartedly as our committee members considered guidance from the Iowa Department of Public Health, the Center of Disease Control, and the Governor’s office involving COVID-19 and this unprecedented environment so we can ensure actions that are best for the greater public welfare in containing & minimizing the long-term spread of this situation.
Despite our own disappointment regarding this announcement, our first obligation lies with protecting the citizens of Des Moines and, we are therefore cancelling the 6th Annual Run With the Police 5K family fun run & police week activities scheduled for Saturday May 16, 2020. Registrations already submitted can either be rolled over to the 2021 race OR they can be refunded. Please contact Shelly Tyler at sltyler@dmgov.org by May 1, 2020 if you wish to receive a refund on your registration. All entrants who do not make contact by this date will automatically be rolled over to the 2021 race.
Though we are saddened in knowing there will not be a run event this year, we assure you that the event will resume next year when the situation has passed and that event will be the same amazing event you have come to know and expect from our dedicated team. We thank you for your on-going support and wish you safety and health in the weeks to come.
